The refurbishment of our Kitchen
had become very necessary. Storage space was limited, the cooker was a simple
domestic cooker (no good for large scale catering) and as one User Group put
it, "The best thing in the kitchen was the new fridge!" A bold plan
was needed! New units throughout, a dishwasher, a new range cooker with extractor-hood,
new water heating facilities, plus a new floor, ceiling and improved access
through the kitchen. That's what was needed and that was the plan we drew
up! Below you will see the results. And very impressive it all looks!
Whilst the kitchen rebuild was
taking place, a band of volunteers, set to work to redecorate the Hall throughout.
The result of three weeks hard work is a bright, airy Hall.

Our Hall kitchen
before work starts. Burco boiler on the right for hot water (and lots
of steam!). Sadia for washing up water, Kettles for making tea/coffee.
Just visible is the cooker, that blew the trip when you turned it on
sometimes. Storage space is a pine cupboard and under sink units. Did
I mention that the tap dripped too?

New Kitchen at

Grants towards the cost of
the kitchen were awarded by:
Buckland Monachorum
Parish Council ~ £850
Co-operative Group Community Dividend Award ~ £1,000
The Garfield Weston Foundation -£2000
Lloyds TSB Foundation ~ £1,000
The National Lottery, Awards for All scheme, ~ £5,000
Northcott Devon Foundation ~ £300

Buckland Monachorum
Drama Group ~ £1,000
Our very grateful
thanks to all our funders.
The Hall's Management Committee,
with help from the local community, raised over £5,000 towards the project!
Thanks to a generous bequest from
Ricky Paul, who passed away in October 2006, we were able to purchase new
cutlery and crockery for the Hall.
The work of fund raising never
stops however! The kitchen needs minor things like, saucepans, roasting trays
etc!!!!! And we also need a plate/food warmer for functions.

On the opposite
side to above, plenty of cupboard space and more
worktop area. Immediately to the right here, we have added a new door
to give another entrance/exit from the kitchen into the Hall.
